Aplikasi Roster Beton sebagai Secondary Skin

Pemakaian roster beton sebagai secondary skin ternyata masih cukup menarik untuk diaplikasikan pada bangunan jaman sekarang. Sekalipun ada yang berpendapat bahwa material roster beton adalah usang alias ketinggalan jaman, saya percaya dengan ide kreatif sang arsitek pasti bisa tercipta fasade bangunan yang unik, sejuk dan menarik. Berikut adalah sebuah contoh aplikasi roster beton pada bangunan cafe yang terletak di Okinawa, Jepang. Selanjutnya biarlah gambar yang berbicara :

Naha,Okinawa,6.2007

Ai Cafe, a four unit commercial building, is located just off Kokusai Dori, the main tourist street in Naha, the capital of Okinawa. It is here that many trendy boutiques and galleries are located, and at adjacent Ukishima Dori where Okinawa’s tradition and youth culture meld.

The site proposed a major challenge: a long street frontage facing the side of a bland convenience store onto which all 4 retail units had to face, including the café. The response became the key element of the building: a 25m long, 5m high perforated concrete block screen – ubiquitous to Okinawa – which encloses balcony access to the 2nd floor while screening off the convenience store, electricity and telephone wires running along the street. The screen, with its pixelated pink orchid pattern, creates an internal world for the café while letting the air and light into the building.

A four-storey tower at one end of the building allows it to be seen from Kokusai Dori, giving it a strong presence on the main road, while the low perforated concrete block screen gives the project a more comfortable scale on the narrower Ukishima Dori.
